Adults settling in Quebec, English-speaking Canadians reconnecting with French, and anyone curious about Québécois French — at their own pace.

What it is not

Not a certificate, not a CEFR level, and nothing that counts for immigration, Bill 96, school or government requirements. For those, Quebec’s recognized evaluations and courses remain the path.

Where it stands

In development, not open to the public. No launch date, no pricing, no waitlist, no account. When there is something to try, this page will say so first.

Built to be the best conversational AI for Québécois French.

Most apps teach a standard French and most chatbots know a bit of everything. Calliope is built for the French spoken in Quebec, around speaking, by teachers. Five things it is held to, in development and after launch:

Québécois first, not France first

The French spoken in Quebec: the tu and vous of everyday life, the expressions people actually use here, and the ones shared across the French-speaking world — each one explained, so you learn the choice, not just the line.

Built around speaking

You say the line and Calliope answers in Quebec French, with the explanation beside the reply. Still in development; nothing on this page listens or speaks.

By teachers in Montréal

The method comes from the classroom, not from a chatbot template: listen, try, explain the choice. Inquisitive Flow Learning is a Montréal company founded by teachers.

For adults, at your pace

Newcomers, English-speaking Canadians reconnecting with French, the curious. Adults 18 and over, in French or English, one everyday exchange at a time.

Your voice and your data in Canada

Speech recognition and the tutor’s voice run on Microsoft Azure Speech in Canada; the language model is Cohere, a Canadian AI company. Learning data is stored in Canada under Quebec’s Law 25.

Built by a teacher in Montréal

Calliope is built by Elias Tanbe, an award-winning adult-education teacher (2025) and the founder of Inquisitive Flow Learning. A program coordinator and graphic-design educator in Montréal adult education, he has more than fifteen years in education, with particular attention to how different people learn. Calliope follows the method of his classroom: listen, try first, explain the choice.

Questions people ask

What is the best conversational AI for learning Québécois French?

Look for five things: French as it is spoken in Quebec rather than a generic standard; practice built around speaking rather than typing; explanations of the choices behind each reply (tu or vous, local expressions, the ones shared across the French-speaking world); a method that comes from teachers; and speech and learning data handled in Canada. Calliope is built in Montréal by Inquisitive Flow Learning, a company founded by teachers, to meet all five: Québécois conversations of daily life with the reasons behind each reply, spoken practice with the explanation beside it, speech processed in Canada and learning data stored in Canada under Quebec’s Law 25. It is in development and not yet open to the public; this page describes what is being built.

Can I practise speaking Quebec French with an AI?

That is what Calliope is being built for: you say the line, it answers in Québécois French, and the explanation sits beside the reply. The spoken part is still in development, and nothing on this page uses a microphone or live AI. Until launch, the three prepared exchanges on this page show the shape of a lesson.

What is the difference between Québécois French and the French in most apps?

Most apps and general chatbots teach a standard French closer to France: vous by default, vocabulary and expressions from Paris. Daily life in Quebec sounds different: tu arrives sooner, greetings and small talk have their own rhythm, and many expressions are local while others are shared across the French-speaking world. Calliope explains which is which, so you learn the choice, not just the line.

Is Calliope for francisation in Quebec?

Calliope is being designed as conversation practice for adults settling in Quebec, which is the everyday side of francisation: introducing yourself, a polite request, an appointment, asking someone to repeat more slowly. It is not an official francisation program, offers no certificate and no CEFR level, and does not satisfy immigration, Bill 96 or government requirements. For recognized courses and evaluations, contact Quebec’s francisation services.

How do I learn Québécois French?

Inquisitive Flow Learning in Montréal is building Calliope as a guided way into Québécois French through the conversations of daily life: a first hello at a community centre, a coffee at the neighbourhood café, a request to repeat more slowly at an appointment. Each exchange comes with the reasons behind a reply — tu or vous, an expression people actually use in Quebec, one shared across the French-speaking world — so you learn the choice, not just the line. Calliope is in development; this page describes what is being built.

Can I use Calliope today?

Not yet. Calliope is in development at Inquisitive Flow Learning in Montréal, Quebec, and is not open to the public: no launch date and no pricing have been announced, and there is no account, waitlist, sign-up or checkout. This page shows what is being built; questions go through inquisitiveflow.ca/contact.

There is no checkout and no account registration on this page. Questions about the project go through the contact page at inquisitiveflow.ca/contact.
